Anyone have an idea as to the cheapest way to get down from OC to campus? My son will be heading back soon and I thought I heard something about a metro/train or does that not go all the way down
For your son's journey from Orange County to UCSD, utilizing public transit is both economical and efficient. While there is no direct metro or train service to the campus, a combination of train and bus services provides a viable option.
Train + Bus Option
- Metrolink Train: Start by taking the Metrolink Orange County Line from stations such as Orange, Tustin, or Irvine to the Oceanside Transit Center.
- BREEZE Bus: From Oceanside, transfer to the North County Transit District (NCTD) BREEZE Bus Route 101, which directly serves the UCSD campus at Gilman Dr & Myers Dr.
Alternative Options
- Amtrak Pacific Surfliner: A faster but more expensive option is to take the Amtrak from various OC stations to Solana Beach or Old Town San Diego, followed by a transfer to the 101 BREEZE bus or the UC San Diego Blue Line Trolley.
- FlixBus: Direct bus services from Anaheim and Santa Ana to the La Jolla/UCSD area are available, with tickets starting around $18–$27, and potential discounts for UCSD students.
