Is there a way to dispute parking tickets? we were there for like 5 minutes dropping something off and we got a ticket!!
If you received a parking ticket at UC San Diego while briefly stopping to drop something off, you do have the option to dispute it through a formal appeal process.
Appeal Process
You must submit your appeal within 21 calendar days from the date the ticket was issued. The appeal can be made online via the UCSD Transportation Services Portal. When submitting your appeal, include:
- Your citation number
- Your vehicle's license plate
- Any supporting evidence, such as photos or receipts, that may demonstrate the citation was issued in error.
While you can appeal, be aware that claims such as "I was parked for just a few minutes" are typically unsuccessful. UCSD explicitly lists this as a common reason for denial. To strengthen your case, consider arguing that:
- The violation did not occur
- You were not responsible for the violation
- There were significant extenuating circumstances that justify dismissal
For further assistance, you may contact the Office of Citation Appeals Administration at (858) 534-4223 during weekday hours (7:30 a.m. – 4 p.m.) UCSD Transportation Services.
