Whats the deal with roommate swaps? Our daughter is not happy and we know that school just started up again but we dont think this situation will work
If your daughter is experiencing difficulties with her roommate, it's important to understand that UC San Diego has a specific process for room changes that emphasizes conflict resolution.
Initial Steps She should first attempt to communicate directly with her roommate to address any issues. If that does not lead to a resolution, she should consult her Resident Assistant (RA) for assistance in revisiting the Roommate Agreement Form, which outlines living standards.
Mediation Process If conflicts persist, a formal mediation session, known as Restorative Dialogue, will be necessary. This involves meeting with her RA and the Community Director (CD) to discuss the situation. A room change will typically not be approved until this mediation has taken place.
Requesting a Room Change Once mediation is completed, if the CD determines that a room change is warranted, she can submit a Room Change Request through the Housing Portal. It's important to note that availability is not guaranteed, and first-year students may face additional restrictions regarding room changes.
For more information, she can contact the housing office at ucsdhousing@ucsd.edu or visit the Housing Portal.
