Where do students find study groups that aren’t awkward? Is there a platform for forming groups by class or do people just… hope?
At UCSD, students can effectively find study groups that minimize awkwardness through a combination of structured university services and informal digital platforms.
Official Structured Platforms For those who prefer a more formal approach, the following resources are available:
- OASIS Academic Resource Communities: These offer workshops and 'Study Jam Express' sessions for students in similar classes or majors, fostering a supportive environment.
- Canvas Groups: Check the 'Groups' tab in Canvas for pre-assigned or sign-up groups specific to your class.
- AATC: Provides Supplemental Instruction and Content Tutoring sessions, which are led by trained peers who have successfully completed the course.
- Discord Student Hub: Join using your @ucsd.edu email to access department-specific servers.
- GroupMe Campus Discovery: Use the 'Campus' tab to find chats for your class or major.
- Reddit (r/UCSD): Students often post to form study groups for challenging courses at the start of each quarter.
- Library Walk Tabling: Student organizations host study jams and social hours.
- Geisel & WongAvery Libraries: Students can reserve rooms and invite peers via class-specific Discord or GroupMe channels.
