For next year’s on-campus housing, if my student signs a housing contract but ends up leaving campus for a quarter (study abroad, internship, medical leave, etc.), can they move back into on-campus housing later or do they usually lose the spot and have to reapply? If you’ve done this, what was the process and who did you contact (HDH, college res life, etc. Thx so much
At UC San Diego, if a student signs a housing contract but leaves campus for a quarter due to study abroad, internships, or medical leave, they generally lose their housing guarantee. This means they cannot hold their specific room and must go through the reapplication process upon their return.
Contract Termination Before leaving, students must complete a Contract Termination Request through the Housing Portal. This action is necessary as HDH cannot save a room due to high demand.
Reapplication Process Upon returning, students should:
- Apply for the Undergraduate Housing Waitlist for the quarter they intend to return.
- If they participated in a UC-sponsored program (like UCEAP), they should notify the Housing Office via email to ensure they are prioritized for housing.
- Housing Administrative Services: housingcontracts@ucsd.edu, Phone: 858-534-4010
- Triton Card Accounts Services: tritoncardaccounts@ucsd.edu for dining dollar inquiries.
- Study Abroad Office: for specific instructions related to housing transitions after a UC-sponsored program.
