So how does tuition and financial aid work for study abroad through uceap? Does it? does everything work the same (loans, scholarship, etc)?
When participating in UCEAP, students at UC San Diego continue to pay standard UC tuition and fees while abroad. The UCEAP office establishes a specific Cost of Attendance for each program, which includes expenses such as airfare, housing, meals, and insurance.
Financial Aid Application
Your existing financial aid, including grants, loans, and scholarships, is automatically applied to your MyUCEAP account to cover mandatory program fees. If the program abroad is more expensive than attending UCSD, your financial aid package may be increased with additional loans or grants. Conversely, if it is less expensive, your aid will be reduced accordingly.
Loans and Scholarships
Eligible students can utilize federal, state, and private loans for their study abroad experience. Notably, the UCEAP Global Scholarship offers up to $2,000, and UCSD provides approximately $1 million in study abroad scholarships annually, including the Chancellorβs Study Abroad Scholarship, which can be as much as $5,000. Additionally, external scholarships like the Benjamin A. Gilman Scholarship are available for Pell Grant recipients, offering up to $5,000.
For more detailed information, students should consult the UCSD Financial Aid & Scholarships Office and the UCEAP portal for specific program estimates and scholarship opportunities.
