If my student is a RA, do they need to pay for housing?
Resident Assistants (RAs) at UCLA receive significant benefits that cover their housing costs, making it unnecessary for them to pay for housing. Compensation Details: RAs are provided with the full cost of their room, typically a single room, along with a meal plan (usually a 14P plan, which can be upgraded). This arrangement serves as their compensation instead of a traditional salary, which means it generally does not impact their financial aid in the same manner as a paycheck would. Contract Process:
- RAs must complete the standard housing application process.
- Upon selection, a new contract is generated by Residential Life and Housing, and any initial deposits paid are reimbursed.
- RAs are required to live in their assigned building for the duration of their appointment.
- They must adhere to all university and housing policies throughout their tenure as RAs.
