My daughter stayed on campus over break (Hedrick) and says dining options were super limited. When do dining halls actually go back to normal hours: the weekend before classes, or not until instruction starts? If it’s limited, what are the closest reliable food options that don’t require a car?
During the winter break, dining options at UCLA are indeed limited, and the main dining halls do not resume their regular hours until the start of the new quarter. Specifically, dining services will return to normal hours starting with dinner on Sunday, January 4, 2025.
Limited Dining Options During Break
While the dining halls are closed or have restricted hours, students can find reliable food options on campus that do not require a car:
- Bruin Café: Often the only dining facility open during breaks, serving lunch and dinner with limited hours (typically 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. for lunch and 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. for dinner).
- Café 1919: May offer limited service similar to Bruin Café during breaks.
- Dining Commons at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center: A nearby hospital cafeteria with varied daily selections, often open later on weekdays.
- Food Trucks: Occasionally available at Sproul and Rieber Court, providing diverse cuisine options within walking distance.
