If my student is a non-resident STEM major who fails to secure a spot in a high-demand lab or prerequisite course during their first-pass registration, does the Financial Aid office offer a budget increase or cost of attendanc' appeal specifically to cover the extra summer tuition required to stay on track for a four-year graduation
If a non-resident STEM major at UCLA does not secure a spot in a high-demand lab or prerequisite course during their first-pass registration, they will not receive a budget increase from the Financial Aid office to cover the additional summer tuition required to stay on track for a four-year graduation.
Summer Financial Aid Process Summer tuition is considered a separate financial aid process. Students must have a 2025-2026 FAFSA or CA Dream Act application on file to be eligible for summer aid. Non-resident students can access financial support primarily through Federal Parent PLUS loans or private loans, as University Grants and Scholarships typically do not cover non-resident supplemental fees.
Eligibility Requirements To qualify for summer aid, students must:
- Be enrolled in at least 6 units (half-time status).
- Ensure their FAFSA/CADAA is submitted by the priority deadline (April 2, 2025 for the 2025-26 cycle).
- Update their Expected Degree Term on MyUCLA to reflect summer enrollment if necessary.
