Are service animals allowed on-campus? Our daughter wants to bring her dog into the dorms next year
UCLA permits service animals in dorms, provided that students complete necessary registration through the Center for Accessible Education (CAE).
Registration Steps
To bring a service animal into university housing, your daughter must:
- Submit a Housing Accommodation Request via the CAE Housing Accommodations portal.
- Answer qualifying questions regarding her disability and the tasks the animal is trained to perform.
- Provide up-to-date vaccination records for the dog, including rabies and other essential vaccinations.
- Obtain a valid county dog license tag that indicates current rabies vaccination.
Once approved, she must adhere to UCLA’s guidelines, which include:
- Keeping the animal under control and restrained at all times.
- Ensuring the dog is housebroken and managing waste properly.
- Preventing disruptive behavior from the animal.
- Being financially responsible for any damage or injury caused by the animal.
