Can students rent scooters on campus? How does that work?
Students at UCLA can conveniently rent electric scooters through a partnership with Bird, as well as e-bikes through Veo. The rental process is facilitated via the Bird mobile app, which provides users with access to available scooters and designated parking areas on campus.
Rental Process To rent a scooter, students must download the Bird app, where they can initiate rentals for a fee. Pricing options may include per-ride costs or monthly passes, with potential discounts available for students or low-income individuals. A valid driver's license is required to operate an e-scooter in California.
Riding and Parking Rules Riders are permitted to use campus roads and designated bike lanes, but must adhere to specific safety and parking regulations:
- Scooters should not be ridden on sidewalks.
- Riders must walk scooters in designated dismount zones, such as Bruin Walk.
- To conclude a ride, scooters must be parked in designated areas shown in the app, which may include striped corner marks or scooter racks, potentially offering discounts for proper parking.
