Quick question, my student mentioned that during freshman orientation a few years ago, UCLA talked about a “True Bruin Traditions Keeper” medal seniors could earn for participating in campus traditions. We haven’t heard anything about it since. Is this still a thing
The True Bruin Traditions Keeper (TBTK) medal continues to be a significant recognition for UCLA seniors who engage in campus traditions throughout their academic journey.
Award Requirements
To earn the TBTK medal for the 2026 commencement, students must fulfill specific requirements:
- Tradition Counts: First-year students need to complete 75 traditions, while transfer students must complete 40.
- Verification: Proof of each completed tradition is required, which can include photos, videos, or ticket stubs.
- Submission Deadline: All documentation must be submitted by May 1 of the graduating year.
Students can find detailed information and digital checklists on the UCLA New Student & Transition Programs website. Additionally, the True Bruin Traditions Keeper app (available for iOS) helps track progress. If technical issues arise, students can submit their evidence via email to newstudents@college.ucla.edu.
Successful participants are honored at a special dinner ceremony during their final quarter, receiving their medal to wear at commencement UCLA New Student & Transition Programs.
