Coming into pegasus as a new family! We are super excited and have a some questions. Do lower school kids really start specialty classes early (Spanish, computer science, library, etc.), or is that more of an upper grade thing, and are there clubs after school to support their interests? Like robotics or other stuff?

As a new family at The Pegasus School, you will be pleased to know that lower school students (Pre-K through 5th Grade) start specialty classes remarkably early, integrating subjects such as Spanish, computer science, and library skills into their curriculum.

Early Specialty Classes

These classes are taught by specialized instructors and include:

  • Spanish: Introduced as part of the core curriculum to build early language skills.
  • Computer Science & Technology: Students engage with technology from the beginning to foster innovation and critical thinking.
  • Library: Weekly visits to the library are standard, encouraging reading and research skills.
  • Additional Subjects: The curriculum also includes science, environmental education, visual and performing arts, and physical education.
After-School Enrichment & Clubs

The Pegasus School offers a variety of after-school activities for younger students, including:

  • Robotics & STEM: Programs like Exploring Electronics (grades 3-5) and Serious About Science (grades K-3) allow lower schoolers to explore their interests in technology.
  • Creative Arts: Options such as Stop Motion Magic and Little Illustrators foster creativity.
  • Sports: Activities like golf and multi-sport athletics are available for physical engagement.

How does academic accomodations work? Do we have to apply, or do they already do an assessment. We think out son may have ADHD so anything helps. Thx!!

At The Pegasus School, academic accommodations are structured through a Pegasus Education Plan (PEP), which is tailored for students with diagnosed learning needs, including ADHD.

Application Process

Parents must initiate the process by:

  • Submitting a Written Request: This request should be directed to both the Division Director and the Educational Psychologist, specifying the accommodations needed.
  • Providing Documentation: Reasonable documentation from a qualified medical provider is required, and parents are encouraged to include results from any external assessments.
Collaborative Assessment

After receiving the documentation, the school may arrange a meeting with the family to discuss potential accommodations. The determination of accommodations is made on a case-by-case basis, ensuring they align with the student's individual needs without altering the fundamental nature of the school's programs.

Support Services

The Pegasus School offers:

  • A formalized Pegasus Education Plan (PEP) for documenting accommodations.
  • Access to learning specialists who provide targeted support.
For further assistance, parents can contact the Educational Psychologist at The Pegasus School for detailed guidance on the PEP process and documentation requirements.
