Hi, my student is a transfer applicant for Fall 2026 and applied to SMU with the intention of majoring in Accounting through Cox. Do transfer students apply to SMU first and then separately to Cox, or is admission to Cox handled within the main SMU application? They applied a few weeks ago and haven’t heard back yet. This is their second time applying to SMU (they also applied in high school).
For students applying to the Cox School of Business at Southern Methodist University (SMU) for Fall 2026, the application process is a two-step procedure. Initially, students must submit their application to SMU, indicating a business major such as Accounting as their primary interest.
Cox Application Process
After the SMU application is submitted, the university will send an email containing a link to the separate Cox School of Business application. This secondary application is reviewed by a faculty committee, which only considers transfer applications for Fall entry after the conclusion of the spring semester.
