Does OSU offer free or low-cost therapy/counseling for students? My student is dealing with some friend/social stress and could really use support, and we’re trying to understand what services are available and how to access them. Thank you!!
Ohio State University (OSU) provides a variety of mental health services at no cost to currently enrolled students, making it accessible for those experiencing social stress.
Available Services
- Counseling and Consultation Service (CCS): Offers individual and group therapy at no cost. Group therapy is particularly beneficial for social concerns.
- Uwill Teletherapy: Provides free access to teletherapy, allowing students to receive up to three sessions for free, with the option for two additional sessions before being referred to CCS for ongoing care.
- "Let’s Talk" Consultations: These are informal, confidential 15–20 minute drop-in consultations available for students seeking quick support.
- Buckeye Peer Access Line (PAL): A free, non-emergency talk line staffed by student volunteers, available at 614-514-3333, to help peers navigate social stress.
- Psychological Services Center (PSC): Offers free outpatient treatment for adults, including those with stress-related disorders.
Students can schedule a Phone Screening to initiate individual therapy, which involves a brief call to determine the best clinical recommendations. Appointments can be made online through the CCS Phone Screening portal. For teletherapy, students can register with their school email on the Uwill platform to book an appointment, often available within hours. Many CCS workshops do not require prior appointments and resume at the start of each semester. For urgent needs outside business hours, students can call 614-292-5766 and press 2 to speak with a licensed clinician.
