I know this gets asked a lot but has anyone received their financial aid refund yet? This term my student has an external scholarship and a University Grant showing as unapplied payments, and we’re not sure if those funds are refundable or only able to be applied toward tuition/fees. If they aren’t refundable, is it possible to have those applied to tuition so other aid would be refunded instead
For the Spring 2026 semester at Ohio State University, financial aid disbursement began approximately 10 days prior to the start of classes, with refunds processed 2–5 business days after disbursement for those enrolled in direct deposit. As of January 22, 2026, students using direct deposit should have received their refunds, while those expecting paper checks may experience delays of up to 15 business days.
Refund Eligibility
Regarding the external scholarship and University Grant showing as unapplied payments:
- Refundable Funds: Most financial aid is eligible for refunding, but certain scholarships or grants may be restricted and not refundable directly to the student.
- Applying Funds to Tuition: If the funds are non-refundable, you can request that they be applied to tuition and fees, allowing other aid (like federal loans) to be refunded. OSU's system prioritizes applying external scholarships to tuition and fees first.
- Ensure you have completed the "Title IV Fund Authorization" on Buckeye Link to allow federal aid to cover minor charges.
- If funds remain unapplied, contact Buckeye Link for assistance in reallocating the payments to your charges. This can help facilitate the release of other refundable aid.
