My student is in the music program and returning with an instrument. Are there safe storage options in dorms or practice rooms
Students in the music program at Ohio State University have access to various secure storage options for their instruments, primarily through the School of Music.
School of Music Lockers Lockers are available in both Weigel Hall and the Timashev Music Building. Music majors receive priority for locker assignments, while non-music majors can apply if enrolled in a relevant ensemble or class. Students must provide their own locks for lockers that do not have combination locks, and it is recommended to have separate insurance for valuable instruments due to OSU's policy on lost items. Applications typically open in mid-August each year via a DocuSign form on the School of Music Locker page (OSU Music Lockers).
Practice Rooms Secure practice rooms are available in the Timashev Family Music Building and Weigel Hall. Reservations can be made through the Mazévo system, and music majors have 24/7 access. Non-majors can access these rooms during regular building hours. It is important to note that personal belongings should not be left unattended in practice rooms (OSU Practice Rooms).
Dorm Storage While residence halls do not offer secure storage for large instruments, some dorms like Baker Hall West and Taylor Tower have dedicated practice rooms. Students are advised to keep instruments in their cases and secured in their personal rooms, ensuring doors are locked at all times.
