My kid says their BuckID ‘stopped working’ after break. Is that a thing or did they just forget how to swipe in
It is not unusual for a BuckID to experience functionality issues after a break at Ohio State University. While your child may simply be having trouble swiping correctly, there are several factors that could cause the card to stop working.
Common Reasons for BuckID Malfunction
- Administrative Lapses: Access to facilities may expire at the end of a semester, particularly if there are issues with class registration or incomplete records.
- Physical Damage: Storing the card near magnets or wireless chargers can demagnetize it.
- System Errors: Technical glitches can affect specific services, such as bus scanning.
- Unpaid Balances: Outstanding tuition fees may deactivate the card.
Your child should first check their account status on MyBuckID to ensure the card isn't marked as lost or deactivated. If they are unable to access their residence hall, they can obtain a temporary ID from their building's front desk. For bus rides, they can show their physical BuckID to the driver if the scanner fails.
If issues persist, visiting the BuckID Card Services office is recommended for troubleshooting or obtaining a replacement. The office is located at the Ohio Union, 3rd Floor (Suite 3040), and is open Monday to Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. They should bring a government-issued photo ID for assistance.
