Ok so career stress is now a full-time sport in our house. My student is convinced January is when internships ‘start happening’ and they’re doomscrolling LinkedIn instead of doing anything concrete. For OSU specifically, what’s the most effective way to use the first few weeks of spring to actually move forward? Like should they be using Handshake, going to career fairs, focusing on networking?
As your student navigates the internship landscape this January, a strategic approach will be essential for success.
Utilize Handshake Handshake is the primary platform for job postings and internship opportunities at OSU. Students should:
- Complete their profile and upload a resume using their osu.edu email.
- Filter searches for internships by industry and location to find suitable roles.
- Set up notifications for new postings that match their criteria.
- University-Wide Spring Career Fair: January 21, 2025, from 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm at the Ohio Union.
- Society of Women Engineers (SWE) Career Fair: Virtual on January 27 and in-person on January 28, 2025.
- CFAES Spring Career Fair: February 12, 2025, at the Ohio Union.
- Inform faculty and current supervisors about their internship search.
- Conduct informational interviews with professionals in their field.
- Use LinkedIn to connect with alumni and request referrals.
