If my student is planning to study away in London and wants to take Cultures and Contexts there. Does anyone know if courses like Modern European History or History of London can count toward the Cultures & Contexts requirement?
Students planning to study away in London should be aware that the Cultures and Contexts (C&C) requirement is strictly defined at NYU London. To fulfill this requirement, students must enroll in courses specifically designated with a "CORE-UA" number.
Approved Courses
The following courses are approved to meet the C&C requirement for 2026:
- Cultures & Contexts: The Black Atlantic (CORE-UA 9534): This course focuses on the cultural and historical impact of the African diaspora.
- Cultures & Contexts: British National Identity (CORE-UA 9549): This course examines the evolving views of British identity, particularly after 1940.
- History of London (HIST-UA 9127): While significant, this course is categorized as an advanced elective and does not count towards the C&C requirement.
- Modern European History: Similar to the History of London, this course typically fulfills major or elective requirements but not the C&C core.
