Has anyone gotten accepted for an internal transfer with a GPA that was less than 3.5? My son is trying to transfer out of tandon towards CAS and has a 3.2 but I saw some people say you need a minimum of 3.5?
While NYU generally recommends a GPA of 3.5 or higher for internal transfers to the College of Arts and Science (CAS), there are instances where students with GPAs as low as 3.0 to 3.4 have successfully transferred. The admissions process for CAS is often more lenient compared to more competitive schools like Stern or Tisch, and applications are reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
Application Requirements
- Minimum GPA: Although a GPA of 2.0 is the technical minimum for application, higher GPAs are preferred for competitive programs.
- Strong Application: A compelling personal statement and evidence of good academic standing can significantly enhance the chances of acceptance.
To improve his chances of transferring, your son should:
- Consult academic advisors at both Tandon and CAS.
- Take CAS-equivalent liberal arts courses to demonstrate capability.
- Draft a strong personal statement explaining his reasons for the transfer.
- Submit the internal transfer application by the deadlines (March 1 for Fall 2026, October 15 for Spring 2026).
